Booking & Reservations

How far in advance should I book my tour?
We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for peak season (October–April) and school holiday periods. Our most popular tours — like Forest Edge and Snowy Mountains — can sell out months ahead. That said, we occasionally have last-minute spots, so it's always worth checking availability even close to your preferred date.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Our cancellation policy is tiered based on how far from your departure date you cancel:

  • More than 30 days: Full refund, minus a $50 processing fee
  • 15–30 days: 50% refund of tour cost
  • 7–14 days: 25% refund
  • Less than 7 days: No refund (credit may be offered)

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover unexpected cancellations. Contact us if your circumstances are exceptional — we'll always do our best.

Can I change my booking date after confirming?
Yes — one free date change is allowed if requested more than 14 days before your tour departs (subject to availability). Subsequent changes or those made inside 14 days may incur a $30 amendment fee. Simply get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Is a deposit required to secure my spot?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total tour cost is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to departure. For last-minute bookings (within 30 days), full payment is required upfront.
How many people can book onto one tour?
Our standard group tours accommodate 8–16 guests to ensure a personal, high-quality experience. Private tours are available for groups of any size — see our Groups & Private Tours section for details.
Can I book for a solo traveller?
Absolutely. We welcome solo travellers and many of our guests travel on their own. You'll be joining a small, friendly group and our guides are experienced at helping everyone feel at home from day one. A single supplement may apply if you require a private tent on certain tours.
What happens if a tour is cancelled by NOMAD?
In the rare event that we must cancel a tour (e.g. due to severe weather or insufficient numbers), you will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to an alternative date at no extra cost. We'll contact you as early as possible and work to minimise any inconvenience.

Tours & Activities

What is included in the tour price?

All NOMAD tours include:

  • Transport in a purpose-built 4WD camper vehicle
  • All camping accommodation (tent, sleeping mat, and pillow)
  • All meals from dinner on night one to breakfast on the final morning
  • Activities listed in the tour itinerary
  • Expert guide(s) for the full duration
  • National park entry fees

Not included: flights/transfers to the departure point, personal travel insurance, optional add-on activities, and personal expenses.

What should I pack for a camping tour?
You'll receive a detailed packing list with your booking confirmation, but the essentials are: sturdy hiking footwear, warm layers (even in summer — nights can be cold), a quality rain jacket, sunscreen and insect repellent, a head torch, and a reusable water bottle. We provide a sleeping bag liner on most tours; a full sleeping bag is recommended for winter and alpine tours.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. We accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and most other dietary requirements with advance notice. Please note any requirements in your booking form or contact us directly. We do our best, but please be aware that some remote locations have limited resupply options.
Are children welcome on NOMAD tours?
Some of our tours are family-friendly and welcome children aged 10 and over. Others are designed for adults only. The tour description will clearly indicate the minimum age. For private family tours with younger children, please contact us to discuss options.
Will there be WiFi or phone signal on tour?
Phone and internet coverage is limited in many of the remote areas we visit — and honestly, that's part of the appeal. Our vehicles carry a satellite communication device for emergencies. We encourage guests to embrace the digital detox; you'll thank us later.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Our guides are experienced in adapting to changing conditions. We carry quality wet-weather gear and have backup plans for every itinerary. Tours rarely cancel due to weather — in fact, stormy skies often make for the most dramatic landscapes. If conditions pose a genuine safety risk, we'll make informed decisions with your wellbeing as the top priority.
Do you offer tours year-round?
Yes — most of our destinations run year-round, each season offering a different character. Summer is ideal for coastal and alpine meadow tours; winter unlocks snow-country experiences and quieter national parks. Check individual tour pages for seasonal availability and our recommended timing notes.
Can I extend my trip or add extra nights?
Extensions are available on select tours and must be arranged at least two weeks before your departure. We can sometimes connect you with the next tour departing from your final location. Get in touch and we'll see what's possible.

Safety & Fitness

What level of fitness do I need?
Each tour has a fitness rating (Easy, Moderate, or Active) listed on the tour page. Most guests are everyday adventurers — you don't need to be an athlete. For Moderate and Active tours, you should be comfortable walking 5–12 km per day on uneven terrain. If you have any health conditions, please check with your doctor and let us know before booking.
Are your guides first-aid trained?
Yes — all NOMAD guides hold current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification as a minimum, with senior guides holding Remote Area First Aid qualifications. Every vehicle carries a comprehensive first-aid kit and a satellite communication device.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical expenses, and emergency evacuation. Some remote locations we visit may require helicopter extraction in a medical emergency — this can be extremely costly without appropriate cover. Insurance is not included in the tour price.
Are tours safe for people with medical conditions?
We welcome guests with a wide range of health conditions, and many of our tours are suitable. Disclosure is important — please complete the health and fitness section of your booking form honestly so we can advise you appropriately. Any medications you carry should be listed with our guide prior to departure.
What is your emergency response procedure?
Each tour has a detailed Emergency Management Plan, reviewed before departure. In the event of an emergency, guides will stabilise the situation, communicate via satellite device, and coordinate with emergency services. All vehicles are equipped with PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons). Our operations centre is contactable 24/7 during all active tours.

Payments & Pricing

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), bank transfer, and PayPal. All payments are processed through our secure booking system. A 1.5% surcharge applies to Amex transactions.
Are there any hidden fees I should know about?
No hidden fees. The price you see on the tour page is the all-inclusive tour cost (excluding flights/transfers to the departure point, travel insurance, optional add-ons, and personal spending money). Our booking page clearly lists what's included and excluded before you pay.
Do you offer any discounts or promotions?
Yes — we offer early-bird pricing (book 60+ days out), returning guest loyalty discounts, and occasional flash sales via our newsletter. Group bookings of 6 or more also qualify for a group rate. Sign up to our email list to be notified first.
Can I pay in instalments?
Our standard structure is a 25% deposit at booking with the remaining balance due 30 days before departure. We do not currently offer additional instalment plans beyond this, but if you're booking well in advance and need more flexibility, contact us to discuss options.
Are prices listed in Australian dollars?
Yes — all prices on our website are in Australian dollars (AUD) and include GST. International guests are welcome to pay in AUD; your bank or card provider will convert at the prevailing exchange rate.

Groups & Private Tours

Do you offer private tour hire for groups?
Yes — private tours are one of our most popular offerings. Whether it's a corporate retreat, bucks/hens trip, family reunion, or birthday celebration, we can customise a full itinerary just for your group. Minimum group size for private hire is 6 people. Enquire here for a tailored quote.
Can you customise the itinerary for a private group?
Absolutely. We'll work with you to design an experience around your group's interests, fitness levels, and schedule. We can incorporate specific activities, destinations, celebratory meals, and more. The more lead time you give us, the better we can tailor the experience.
Is there a group discount for standard tours?
Yes — groups of 6 or more booking onto a standard group tour receive a 10% discount off the per-person tour price. For 10 or more people, contact us for a custom group rate. Discounts apply to the base tour cost only and cannot be combined with other promotions.
Can you cater for corporate team-building events?
We have extensive experience running corporate retreats and team-building programs. Our packages can include structured team challenges, leadership activities, campfire workshops, and facilitated debrief sessions. We can also provide post-event summary reports and photography packages. Talk to our team to learn more.
How far in advance do I need to book a private tour?
We recommend 8–12 weeks for most private tours, and up to 6 months for large corporate groups or peak-season dates. Shorter lead times may be possible depending on availability — reach out and we'll let you know what we can do.
